ARCH Window Gallery, Ryde 2022
Artwork by Joanna Kori, 2022
Truncations was a window installation created in response to the recycled clothing/sewing activities as part of a wider programme of community support work at Aspire Ryde, Isle of Wight.
Suspended in front are charcoal drawings of clothing on tissue paper, a medium choice that references sewing patterns/tailor's chalk.
The contorted dynamic of these drawings - created by sewing, layering and folding paper - reflects on the trauma of truncated lives in suspension, endured by many who receive humanitarian help/support.
A large backdrop drawing of a dark jacket of monstrous proportions looms and frames the suspended frontispieces. Cuttings are scattered beneath.
